SELF-CARE BEHAVIOR FEATURES AMONG THE STUDENTS

Summary

Self-care behavior is seen as a system of actions and relationships aimed at maintaining health throughout the full life cycle and extending life expectancy. The physical and spiritual health of its members is valuable to every society. Therefore, the study of self-care behavior is of great importance. We have studied the self-care behavior of student youth using the sociological research. For only a quarter of students, health is a core value. At the same time, the importance of health is more expressed in males than in females. Among students who named health as the value of first importance, only 33% showed constant attention to maintaining it. Among the factors of health care, the special attention of students is paid to the lifestyle. They value a healthy lifestyle 5.4 times more than a systematic medical examination. For the most students, the health care is not preventative. Female students are more consistent in following doctors’ recommendations if they are not hindered by the lack of material resources. Males are more likely reluctant to follow their doctor's recommendations (28%). Among the components of a healthy lifestyle, students name hygiene (41%), proper nutrition (32.5%), sports (16%) and recreation (10.5%). Full compliance with the hygiene rules in females is expressed 1.2 times more often than in males.

Proper diet and moderation are characteristic of females 1.4 times more often than males. And males pay 3.9 times more attention to regular physical exercise and 1.2 times more - to rest than females. As for the attitude of students to bad habits - tobacco, alcohol, drugs, the number of tobacco smokers has decreased, alcohol consumption is moderate, and drug use in every fifth of the surveyed students is common.

Among the drug users are representatives of both sexes. Research has shown that students’ self-care culture is quite low, and the important events should be held in the country. It is very important to develop a culture of self-care at an early age. The pre-school and school education system should be involved in this process with the family.
